Laurel Farm Kindergarten was set up in January 2010 by a group of energetic and dynamic parents who were looking for an alternative to mainstream education for their children. They wanted a small, homely, loving environment where their children could develop a strong connection to nature.

The Kindergarten grew from a pre-existing parent & child group in Bath (Beansprouts) into Green sprouts parent & child group at Laurel Farm. The parents spent most of their spare hours collaborating to get the building and outdoor space ready, source resources, recruit staff, write policies etc.

These founding parents chose Steiner education for the nurturing focus and balancing of hand, heart and head, rather than an early academic emphasis. Song, craft, bread & soup making coupled with a grounded discipline and loving conflict resolution.

The Kindergarten started as a Steiner-inspired setting, however, 2013 marked a significant milestone as all the requirements were met to be recognised by the Steiner Fellowship. This was followed by a successful Ofsted inspection in 2014 where the kindergarten was awarded an ‘Outstanding’ rating in all areas. All the efforts of the staff and trustees were rewarded.
